Where it all started

The project is based on the success of the Canary Wharf Group’s Local Business Liaison Office model which has operated since 1997. The Local Business Liaison Office has helped local companies to secure over £532 million worth of business since its inception with 84% of the contracts and purchase orders valued under £10,000 and accessible to small to medium enterprises (SMEs).

ELBP will work with a range of delivery partners, primarily Canary Wharf Group and borough planning and economic development teams, to draw together a comprehensive picture of future contracting needs and undertake buyer and supplier engagement. Buyers will be provided with information on local suppliers and the benefits of using local and diverse supply chains. The project aims to add value by bringing together local and regional supply chain support services within each of the ten Thames Gateway boroughs.

This service will be led by CWG and delivered via a central "Hub" team supported by funded "Supplier Development Officers" (SDO) for the ten boroughs. ELBA will be monitoring the project and be responsible for reporting on delivery to the London Development Agency via London Borough of Hackney.

The East London Business Place will incorporate the successful Building East model that has operated in the boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge over the last three years.

What differentiates ELBP from other projects is the ability to measure results through information management systems enabling businesses to see exactly how much has been spent locally and to measure the impact and success of the project.
